VASHON REPERTORY THEATRE TRIUMPHED WITH
Sweeney Todd
Stephen Sondheim’s tale of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street
February 16-26, 2023
Revenge Can Be Delicous.
Most of the Island attended the tale this February when VRT and Island Time Productions staged Stephen Sondheim’s most disturbing musical about almost every possible human perversion... all set to Sondheim’s stunning music. From victim to prisoner then demon barber, Sweeney Todd exacts his vengeance on those who destroyed his life. His diabolical revenge is aided by the equally diabolical Mrs. Lovett.
Acclaimed on Broadway from its 1980 debut and in film, the legend of Sweeney Todd has mesmerized audiences with its pairing of nightmarish songs with sardonic comic relief. Sondheim has been quoted as saying that his Sweeney Todd was about obsession. Many would agree, and some might add that is only the start of his exploration of the human capacity for darkness in this clever and unforgettable play.

We miss you.
There’s more to the story of this production.
Behind the Scenes of VRTs Sweeney Todd Production is A Personal Story. “For me this is a personal thing because it’s a show Marshall and I always wanted to do together. When it’s all said and done, it will be a tribute to him.” Those are the words of Stephanie Murray, co-star and co-producer of Vashon Repertory Theatre’s February production of Sweeney Todd.
